The Amarok doesn’t just have a lot of character on the outside, there’s plenty of personality under the bonnet too. From its ladder-frame chassis up, the new Amarok is uncompromisingly tough. With its tried and tested 4-cylinder engine and permanent 4MOTION® all-wheel drive, you can go anywhere, without changing pace to shift gear.
With the refinement you expect of Volkswagen, you might forget you are in a rugged workhorse. The sophisticated interior makes driving a pleasure especially with the technically advanced, class leading 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Take away the stylish grille, the shiny panels and the chrome badge, and you’ll find German engineering that puts the Amarok in a class of its own. The Amarok doesn’t just have a lot of character on the outside, there’s plenty of personality under the bonnet too. And it all comes together to make a ute that’s built to conquer the road – on and off.
All Amarok Automatic models feature permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive, where power is generally distributed between the front and rear axles 40:60. When driving on loose surfaces the self-locking Torsen differential automatically distributes power to driven wheels with the most traction. The selectable 4MOTION all-wheel drive on the Amarok Core manual model distributes 50% of the engine output between the front and rear axles to ensure reliable traction on challenging terrain.
The Hill Start system prevents the Amarok from rolling backwards when starting on steep inclines. The Hill Descent Control system, within off-road mode, automatically brakes individual wheels to allow a safe and controlled descent down a hill, even without engine braking. Hill start / descent assist and trailer stabilisation are standard equipment across the Amarok range.
From steep hills to snaking creeks, the Amarok can master extremely challenging terrain. It has an impressive approach angle of 28° and a departure angle of 23.6°– as well as a wading depth of up to 500mm. Plus, strong protection under the vehicle ensures the Amarok can forge a safe path.
The Amarok has an intelligent ‘off-road’ button that sets up the vehicle for off-road driving. The off-road functions activated include Hill Descent Control, and recalibrated ABS settings that improve performance on dirt, and reduce the stopping distance on loose surfaces. Anti-spin regulation (ABS/ASR) including Off-road ABS and electronic differential lock (EDL) are standard equipment across the Amarok range.
The optional mechanical differential lock makes taking off in adverse, off-road conditions much easier. When the going gets tough you can rely on this diff-lock, which mechanically locks the rear wheels to ensure maximum traction in any condition.
Pallets, sandbags, stones – whatever you want to transport. With a payload of up to 1,041kg, depending on Amarok model, virtually everything is possible.
The Amarok doesn’t just perform like a beast, it looks like one too. The Amarok comes with a host of exterior features designed to reflect its on-road and off-road capabilities. High strength steel throughout the chassis and body provide a robust platform, while hi-tech features such as the Bi-Xenon headlights (optional on Core and Comfortline) pave the path ahead; they also light up the faces of passers-by.
Volkswagen’s cutting-edge turbo-injected TDI engine with diesel particulate filter features common rail technology that injects precise amounts of fuel at extremely high pressure. This results in impressive torque and performance.
The new Amarok comes with a stylish range of alloy wheels including:
"Posadas" alloy wheel, 17 inch. With 255/60 R 17 tyres
“Manaus” alloy wheel, 18 inch With 255/60 R 18 tyres
“Cantera“ alloy wheel, 19 inch. With 255/55 R 19 tyres
Check out the specification sheet for applicable model and wheel options.
With the widest tray in its class, the Amarok offers more space between the wheel housing for tools, furniture, luggage and yes, pallets.
Loaded with driver aids the Amarok will help make you a better and safer driver on-road and off-road. All Amaroks have standard Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) to avoid skidding plus Hill Hold Assist (HHA) to prevent slides on hill starts, and Hill Descent Control (HDC) to ease Amarok down steep descents, even without engine braking. Multi-collision braking is also standard across the range. This feature is an innovative braking system that helps prevent subsequent collisions or at least minimises their impact.
The spacious cargo box checks in at an impressive 2.52 m² load surface and features 508 mm high side panels with a low loading sill height of 780 mm and 1,222mm between the wheel arches. Not only is it the widest, it has four lashing eyes conveniently located around the load space. And, with the lightest tailgate in its class, with a carrying capacity of up to 200kg, the Amarok will take the brunt of the most extreme workloads. Payload is also significant – lug loads of up to 1,041kg.
However tough your work may be, nothing will shake you in the Amarok. The cabin of the Amarok has been designed with you in mind. With adjustable front seats, uncomplicated but clever dashboard, multifunction leather steering wheel with multifunction display and practical stowage pockets to keep your Amarok tidy, it’s got everything you need.
