Engineering
| Engine performanceThe new Touareg range starts with the 3.0 litre V6 TDI Diesel engine and includes a 150kW and 180kW version. Both powerful and fuel economic the V6 engine produces up to 550Nm of torque. The new V8 TDI is quite a powerhouse with a 4.2 litre (250kW) engine which produces torque of 800Nm. Both models have a braked trailer load limit of 3,500kgs. |
Innovation and responsibilityThe V6 models feature Volkswagen’s BlueMotion Technologies – which includes a revolutionary start-stop system that automatically shuts off the engine when the car is stationary, a regenerative braking system which recycles braking energy and low friction tyres. Weight reduction, aerodynamics and transmission further reduce fuel burn and increase momentum. | |
| New 8 speed transmissionThe new Touareg has Volkswagen’s newly developed 8-speed Tiptronic transmission .The seventh and eighth gears are designed to operate as a more economical overdrive. (The eighth reduces speed compared to the sixth gear by 34%.) A dynamic shift programme adjusts the shift points to your individual driving style. And the silky smooth Tiptronic gives you the drive and sportiness of a manual. |
4Motion permanent All Wheel Drive for greater controlThe new Touareg has All Wheel Drive 4Motion as standard. The “Terrain Tech” package (available as an option only on the V6) offers 4XMotion - further enhancing 4Motion abilities with electronically-controlled multi-lock and low range transmission gearing. |
| SafetyThe new Touareg is prepared for anything, with extensive safety features including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS plus) with Brake Assist, Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) traction control and Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP) and 7 airbags which include the addition of a new drivers knee airbag. |
