Safety equipment. The Amarok smoothly handles even the toughest terrain thanks to its numerous safety and assistance systems. The elaborate technology package, consisting of Off-road ABS and next generation electronic stabilisation programme with hill start and hill descent assistant, is unique in the pickup category. During extreme off-road driving, the Off-road ABS ensures controlled blocking of the wheels so that small bits of material from the ground build up to create brake wedges. This can substantially reduce the stopping distance of the vehicle without having a negative impact on its manoeuvrability. The electronic stabilisation programme automatically adjusts to the load conditions and helps prevent the vehicle from swerving. These measures – combined with maximum stability thanks to the robust ladder frame – makes the Amarok an ideal partner for the intense rigours of day-to-day work.
Differential lock. When the rear differential lock is activated, both wheels at the back of the vehicle are powered with the same amount of force and rotations. This offers optimal traction, even on sandy or slippery surfaces. Available for: A | H Hill Start and Hill Descent Assist. It prevents the Amarok from rolling backwards on strong inclines and allows a comfortable handling of the vehicle when pulling away uphill. Upon activation of the Off-road function, the assistant automatically brakes the vehicle to allow a safe and controlled descent. Available for: A | H Airbags.Every Amarok is equipped with up-to-date airbag technology. Just a few milliseconds after the crash sensors register an impact, the driver’s airbag and the front passenger airbag are inflated with a gas mixture to protect the head and upper body area of the passengers. In addition, combined head/thorax airbags (standard only on Highline models) are integrated in the sides of the front seats. These are immediately activated following a side collision. Available for: A | H Emergency stop signal. In the event of an emergency stop at 50 km/h or above, the brake lights start flashing. If the vehicle comes to a standstill, the hazard warning lights are activated and will automatically switch off again as soon as you reach a speed of 10 km/h when you resume driving. Available for: A | H Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR).If one of the driven wheels has an undesirably high rotation speed (slip rate), the system activates a partial braking procedure. This prevents wheelspin and facilitates a smooth acceleration. Available for: A | H Trailer stabilisation. It complements the electronic stabilisation programme: should the trailer start to fluctuate heavily, the system slows it down by means of controlled braking and reduced engine torque. This steadies the trailer and increases driving safety. Available for: A | H Electronic Differential Lock (EDL).If one wheel starts to spin, it brakes the wheel and transfers the entire power to the second rearwheel on vehicles with rear-wheel drive and to the other three wheels on vehicles with 4MOTION. EDL can also be combined with an optional rear axle differential lock. Available for: A | H
