Knows the terrain
Maximum driving comfort over any terrain makes the Amarok just that bit smarter than all other utes. With its state-of-the-art gearbox technology, superior off-road capabilities and optimal traction, that’s a pretty easy conclusion to make.
On tarmac however, the Amarok employs smooth and comfortable driving characteristics. So no matter whether you’re ploughing through water, snow, mud, extreme inclines or city traffic the Amarok is intelligent enough to know the difference.
Intelligent drive options.- Rear-wheel drive: During acceleration vehicle weight is transferred to the rear wheels for optimal road contact. Additionally, rear-wheel drive enables steering that is not influenced by the engine torque.
- Selectable 4MOTION all-wheel drive: Ensure reliable traction on loose surfaces. Once activated via push-button, it distributes 50% of the engine output to each of the axles to improve forward thrust. An additional gear reduction setting can be engaged to cope with extremely tough terrain or steep inclines. The electronic stabilisation programme also functions when selectable all-wheel drive is activated. And you continue to drive your vehicle with rear-wheel drive when travelling on paved roads.
- Heavy-duty leaf springs: These offer a high level of safety for high loads and have such a robust construction that they master even rough terrain with ease.
Whatever works for you, works for the Amarok. Its different combinations of drives can handle whatever you throw at it. The Amarok

| Off-road capability that will get you thinking.4MOTION all-wheel drive makes the Amarok a perfect off-road vehicle. It’s not daunted by inclines, surfaces with a lateral tilt or bumps or crossing water up to half a meter deep. The Amarok is smooth on the toughest terrain thanks to its numerous safety and assistance systems. The elaborate technology package, consisting of Off-road ABS and next generation electronic stabilisation programme with hill start and hill descent assistant, is unique in the pickup category. During extreme off-road driving, the Off-road ABS ensures controlled blocking of the wheels so small bits of material from the ground build up to create brake wedges. This can substantially reduce stopping distance without having a negative impact on manoeuvrability. |
Superior Towing With trailer stability software, even towing a trailer load of 2.8 t at a 12% incline is not a problem for the Amarok. It can even get a tonne up a hill with a 45º incline without breaking into a sweat.Over hillsThe Amarok can climb almost every mountain and do it with a heavy load on the back too. And with Hill Start and Hill Descent Assist preventing the Amarok from rolling backwards on strong inclines and allowing a comfortable handling of the vehicle when pulling away uphill, all you need to think about is what’s for lunch.
| Across fordsWhen you’re crossing the fords, it good to know the Amarok is not afraid of water. It has an impressive approach angle of 28° and a departure angle of 23.6° (28° without bumper) as well as a wading depth of up to 500 mm. |
Across hillsThe Amarok has an affinity for extremes and can even handle roads with a lateral tilt of approximately 50° 1), 2) letting you cross almost any slope.
| And over treesThe Amarok comfortably takes you across sticks and stones - and over significantly bigger things, too. With a ramp angle of 23° 1), even obstacles like tree trunks and rocks won’t stop you. |
