Range record for the ID.3: from Zwickau to Switzerland with a single charge

Professional driver Felix Egolf impressively shows how efficient driving affects the performance of an electric vehicle. By achieving the first range record for the ID.3.

An ID.3 tops itself

531 kilometres non-stop in the fully electric ID.3 1ST Pro Performance1 with 58 kWh battery, 150 kW (204 PS) and an official range of 420 kilometres (WLTP2): Record-setting driver Felix Egolf loves a challenge. He managed to drive the first member of the ID. family on public roads and motorways all the way from the Zwickau electric car plant to Schaffhausen in Switzerland – without ever having to recharge it. That corresponds to an increase in range of more than 100 kilometres compared to the official WLTP value.

The car looks like it’s one whole piece, is compact yet spacious, has a cool, almost futuristic design and offers little wind resistance.

Efficient driving takes us further

In addition to technology, efficiency is paramount when it comes to conquering the range game. And this is brought to a head with hypermiling. Felix Egolf let go of the accelerator time and again, let the ID.3 sail, and while on the motorway he took advantage of the slip stream from the trucks in front of him. This enabled power consumption to be reduced from between 15.4 to 14.5 kWh/100 km on average to just 10.9 kWh/100 km, despite an additional 250 kg weight on board, as well as radio, navigation, lighting and ventilation systems switched on.

Impressive range not just on daily trips

With a driving time of around 9 hours and an average speed of 56 km/h, such a record journey is of course not comparable with everyday trips. Thanks to its high-performance high-voltage battery, efficient drive and quick charging capability, even long distances in the ID.3 are no problem.
