Simon Child

When and Why did you start playing hockey?

I started playing in my older brother’s team when I was 4 years old. Mum and Dad both played hockey at the elite level so I don't think I had a choice.

What’s the best part of your sport?

Playing a team sport and having the opportunity to represent NZ at the Olympic Games.

What’s your most memorable moment and Why?

My debut match for the Black Sticks in April 2005 is my most memorable moment. I was still in school and we played Malaysia in a 4 test series in Auckland. All of my school friends and family were there to support me.

What Volkswagen do you currently drive?

Passat Alltrack

What’s the best feature/gadget of this car?

It’s 4WD so that gives me the freedom to take it anywhere, as well as having sure-footed traction on the tarmac to give it incredible road handling during my everyday travels. Plus all the cool techno features that make it such an easy car to drive.

What is your dream car?

Aston Martin DB5

Playing golf on the PGA Tour or running my own business.
