Golf wins Car of the Year award

Volkswagen Golf 8 named Car of the Year

Volkswagen New Zealand is proud to announce the new Golf 8 has been voted the 2021 NZ Autocar Car of the Year ($35,000 - $50,000 class).

The Golf is an icon for Volkswagen and this eighth generation has taken the model to the next level - while keeping what makes it so very special. Achieving this award across an extremely competitive segment underscores it as the complete all-rounder.

Volkswagen New Zealand’s General Manager of Passenger Vehicles, Greg Leet, says this latest iteration of the Golf has won numerous international motoring awards, but he is especially delighted the Golf 8 has been acknowledged in New Zealand.

“The Golf 8 represents the greatest leap forward in Volkswagen technology since the model launched over 45 years ago, and we are thrilled these benchmarks are receiving industry-wide plaudits.

“Our loyal customers have known the benefits of driving a Golf for decades, so it’s great that awards like this help spread the message of just how impressive it is.

“The Golf 8 tag-line talks about ‘something every generation can agree on’ – it appears it’s having the same effect on motoring judges,” smiles Leet.

The five main judging criteria for NZ Autocar Car of the Year include:

·         Design (including safety)

·         Performance (how well it goes as well as fuel efficiency)

·         Driving Dynamics (how it corners, rides and how refined it is on the go)

·         Practicality (versatility)

·         Value (specification, quality and ‘bang for buck’).
